    L. Amedee Darga

    L. Amedee Darga is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (U.K). He is the Chairman of the Mauritius Africa Business Club and is also the Managing Partner of StraConsult Africa Business Development Services. He has been from October 2005 to December 2014, the chairperson of Enterprise Mauritius. He is a Honorary Fellow of the Institution of Engineers in Mauritius as well as a Fellow of the Mauritius Institute of Directors. He also served as a member of the High-Level Project Monitoring Unit under the Prime Minister's Office until December 2014. Amedee Darga has been a resource person to UNECA for the preparation of the Africa Governance Report project. He has been the Lead Consultant for the preparation of Country AGR II, III and IV over a period of seven years for Mauritius and Seychelles. He is over the last six years the Principal Investigator for Afrobarometer surveys in Mauritius. Amedee Darga has been party to a number of international trade negotiations at WTO, COMESA and SADC as well as in bilateral negotiations between Mauritius, India, Pakistan and Turkey. He is a former member of parliament in Mauritius, elected for the first time at the age of 26 and a former Minister. He also served as a Mayor of the second most important town of Mauritius. He is a trustee of the Southern and Eastern African Trade and Information Network (Seatini), a member of the African Association of Political Science since 1977 and a former executive member of the organization. He was a member of the task force of the OAU for the drafting of the African Nuclear Weapon Free Zone Treaty. He served from 2005 to 2011 as a Member of the Bureau of the Committee on Human Development and Civil Society of the U.N Economic Commission for Africa. As a researcher he has widely researched and published on democracy, governance and economic development issues. His latest publication is a chapter in the book "Advocates for Change – How to overcome Africa's Challenges" edited by Moeletsi Mbeki. "
