Our objective is to make expert knowledge on Mauritius and the region accessible to a wider audience. We publish articles, podcasts and webinars that exhibit the rigour of scientific enquiry but articulated in an accessible language.
- Authors guidelines
Authors may either be invited by the Centre for a contribution or they may pitch an idea by sending an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org. The editorial team will consider it in lines with our editorial guidelines.
Authors should be recognised experts in their fields evidenced either through their academic publications or their extensive professional experience in a relevant field. i.e. experienced practitioners including policy practitioners.
When considering contributions, the editorial team will pay particular attention to the following:
- We are looking for contributions that are independent in thought, rooted in rigorous analysis and systematically referenced.
- Contributions should be original (not published elsewhere).
- Contributions should be between 1,000 to 1,500 words in length.
- Authors need to have been directly involved and be thoroughly familiar with the original data referred to in their contribution;
- Any statement, facts and figures need to be backed by research and evidence. We prefer the use of in-text online links for references whenever it is possible. When links are not possible authors can use endnotes. To help the editorial team, you can put your web link in brackets next to the statement to be referenced.
- We encourage authors to write in an accessible language. To increase readability for a wide audience, explain complex ideas and avoid the passive voice, long sentences and technical jargon.
- Contributions can be in English or French.
- When using graphs or table, kindly add them at the end of your paper and indicate where in the article you would like them to appear by indicating it in bracket in the text. Eg: (insert figure1 here).
- You may suggest photos for your article provided that you have cleared copyright use.
- We publish all original contributions to the website under the Creative Commons License Attribution-NonCommercial-no derivatives (CC BY-NC-ND).
- Author profiles
We will showcase authors’ profile in each contribution.
Your profile shall include a picture and a small bio of 150 to 250 words. When writing your bio, authors should try to showcase their expertise and publications if relevant.
- Review process
After receipt of an article by the editorial team, the team will review the article to ensure it meets the standards set by the editorial guidelines. The editorial team will then make a recommendation to the editorial committee. The editorial committee may ask for some revisions on the submitted paper. Final decision to publish an article rests with the Charles Telfair Centre Editorial Committee.
The editorial team will work with authors to ensure the article meets our editorial standards. Once the revision process is complete, we will send the final version to the author for approval. Changes are still possible at this stage; authors can simply inform the editor of the suggested changes.
Authors need to approve the final version of the article before the Centre can publish it on its website. Approval can be given by sending an e-mail to the editor.
We ask that authors do not share their article to other parties until it has been published on our website.
